Start A Business in Manitoba

October 3, 2023

Starting a business in Manitoba can seem overwhelming if you haven’t done it before. Simply, you need to decide what tax structure you want before registering your Name Reservation with the Manitoba Companies Office:

  1. Sole Proprietor (unincorporated) – Filed with T1 Generals (Personal Tax Returns)
  2. Partnership (unincorporated) – Filed with T1 Generals (Personal Tax Returns)
  3. Incorporate a Business – Filed with T2 Corporate Returns with Corporation

Down Field Consulting can help you submit a Business Name Reservation to see if your business name is available for use in Manitoba. Down Field Consulting holds a Manitoba Companies Office Online Account to help you expedite your setup.

Your steps to starting your business are:

  1. Get Approval of Name Reservation ($45 fee per filing)
  2. Using your Name Registration Approval to Register the Business ($60 fee – $300 fee)

Once you have your Business registered, you can open a bank account with your new business name.
